Overview
A leading utility-scale power producer is seeking a Plant Performance Engineer for the Redstone Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Plant in the Northern Cape. This role supports operations by coordinating plant performance activities, monitoring output, and ensuring continuous optimization of efficiency and availability. The position reports to the Plant General Manager and plays a critical role in aligning operations with HSE, quality, and productivity standards.
What You’ll Do
- Monitor daily plant performance and ensure operational parameters are within defined limits.
- Coordinate with Shift Engineer and Chief Chemist to implement operational changes aimed at improving efficiency (with Operations Manager approval).
- Prepare and distribute daily and monthly plant performance reports to stakeholders across plant, regional, and corporate levels.
- Compile monthly production and invoice reports for power and water, in coordination with the finance department.
- Evaluate and report on preventive and corrective maintenance activities, including overhauls and equipment inspections.
- Perform performance evaluations and safety audits on critical systems, recommending improvements or mitigations as needed.
- Troubleshoot plant performance issues with the Operations Team, diagnosing root causes and providing technical recommendations.
- Conduct integrity and performance analysis of equipment, using calculation models to drive optimization.
- Ensure compliance with all HSE procedures, including incident analysis and implementation of preventative measures.
- Support Integrated Management System (IMS) audits and updates, driving corrective actions and improvements across operations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in alignment with operational goals.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum of 8–10 years’ experience in process and performance engineering within water desalination or power generation plants, including 2+ years in a supervisory capacity.
- Engineering qualification at NQF Level 7 or higher (preferred).
- Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) – non-negotiable.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
- Experience with CMMS platforms (preferably SAP) and maintenance management methods.
- Skilled in downtime analysis, predictive inspection tools, and performance diagnostics.
- Demonstrated ability to drive technical troubleshooting, optimize plant processes, and develop engineering documentation.
- Familiarity with HSE systems and compliance requirements in industrial environments.
