Overview

A leading renewable energy developer is seeking a Land Acquisition Manager to oversee land identification, acquisition, and permitting for utility-scale solar, wind, and hydro projects across South Africa and selected African markets. This role is central to early-stage development, with a focus on stakeholder engagement, contractual negotiations, and ensuring land readiness for project implementation.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Identify suitable land for renewable energy projects (solar, wind, hydro) in South Africa and internationally.
  • Negotiate, draft, and manage lease agreements, purchases, and servitudes/wayleaves with landowners.
  • Develop mapping and layout overlays aligned with project designs using GIS tools.
  • Secure and manage all land-related permits and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain regular communication with new and existing landlords, building long-term relationships.
  • Resolve any issues related to landlords, land access, or permitting that may impact project progress.
  • Manage third-party consultants and land acquisition specialist.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders throughout the development process.
  • Support bid preparation processes with accurate land data and permitting documentation.

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Spatial Planning (Honours).
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in site acquisition or land development.
  • Proven expertise in land negotiations, lease drafting, and permitting for infrastructure or energy projects.
  • Strong GIS capabilities and experience with layout mapping.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Fluent in English (read, write, speak).
  • Ability to travel as required and manage projects across multiple regions.
