Overview
Join a global energy leader driving the development of large-scale hybrid energy projects across South Africa. This role supports the origination, technical evaluation, and bid development of utility-scale solar PV, BESS, and hybrid power projects. You will work within the business development team, bridging technical engineering insight and project evaluation strategy to deliver bankable, compliant, and technically robust bid submissions for REIPPPP, RMIPPPP, and private tenders.
What You’ll Do
- Lead technical evaluations for new project opportunities, including feasibility, yield studies, and technology assessments (PV, BESS, ICE, CSP).
- Coordinate and manage techno-commercial bid inputs across engineering, procurement, permitting, legal, and finance.
- Develop and review EPC technical appendices and manage technical negotiations with EPCs, OEMs, and Lenders’ Technical Advisors.
- Compile, draft, and manage the delivery of technical sections of bid submissions, including supporting TDD reviews and responses to clarifications.
- Oversee and drive external studies (grid connection, geotechnical, decommissioning) and interface with internal and external technical experts.
- Contribute to project structuring, technical risk identification, and mitigation planning during early-stage project screening.
- Engage with permitting, economic development, and HR teams to ensure technical inputs align with compliance and local content strategies.
- Participate in EPC and O&M contract negotiations, including HoTs formulation and technical risk clauses.
- Support preparation and technical input into the financial model and associated assumptions.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar; Master’s in Nuclear or Energy Engineering is advantageous.
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in utility-scale power project development, preferably in renewables (PV, BESS, hybrid).
- Proven experience in project feasibility studies, bid technical submissions, and lender TDD support.
- Strong working knowledge of pressure vessels, piping (ASME/EN standards), and power systems.
- Familiarity with REIPPPP and RMIPPPP bid processes and South African regulatory compliance.
- Proficient in managing EPC contractors, OEM negotiations, and interfacing with legal teams during project close.
- Advanced technical writing and coordination skills, with experience drafting technical bid documents and managing multi-disciplinary teams.
