Our client is a leading IPP in South Africa’s renewable energy landscape, based in Cape Town. This role is based full time in the office. Our client has an enviable culture and pro-employee environment.

The Electrical Engineer plays a key role within the EPC/Engineering function, providing technical assurance and oversight across the electrical scope of renewable energy projects from development through to construction and commissioning.

The role works closely with the Lead Electrical Engineer and interfaces with internal project teams and external consultants to ensure compliant, bankable, and buildable electrical designs.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare and review electrical designs, drawings, and cost estimates during development and transaction phases
• Coordinate and manage inputs from external electrical engineering consultants
• Support site electrical activities alongside site supervisors and construction managers
• Ensure electrical designs and installations comply with client requirements, applicable standards, and safety regulations
• Produce bid and tender deliverables relating to electrical works
• Compile electrical cost inputs for financial models
• Prepare and review RFP/RFQ documentation, including drawings, specifications, and returnable schedules
• Evaluate tender submissions from electrical contractors
• Review detailed AFC electrical designs produced by consultants or contractors
• Identify electrical technical risks and support mitigation strategies
• Support site acceptance testing and commissioning activities
• Provide ongoing technical assurance on electrical aspects across the project lifecycle
• Collaborate with Development, Transactions, ESG, and Asset Management teams to support project success through to COD

What We’re Looking For

• BSc Electrical Engineering / BEng (Electrical) / National Diploma in Electrical Engineering
• Minimum experience:
  • 5 years for BSc/BEng qualified candidates
  • 4 years for National Diploma candidates
• At least 3 years’ experience on renewable energy projects (preferrable)
• Strong technical capability across:
  • Short-circuit, load flow, cable sizing, and grounding grid calculations (IEEE 80)
  • Grid connection, transmission, and distribution works
  • Substation experience
  • South African Grid Code
• Experience using electrical calculation software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT, NEPLAN, INTEGRA, or similar
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
• Solid understanding of generation systems and grid interaction
• Exposure to quality control and technical assurance processes
• Strong problem-solving ability and collaborative working style
• Willingness to travel when required
