Job Description

MECHANICAL ENGINEER - SITE (Owners Engineer)

1. Overview

This is a global engineering group with over a century of technical heritage and a footprint that spans Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. The organisation is recognised for delivering complex infrastructure, energy, and environmental projects across the full lifecycle — from feasibility and detailed design to construction oversight, commissioning, and operational support.

Its core expertise covers renewable energy, transmission and distribution, thermal generation, water and environmental infrastructure, nuclear engineering, and large industrial developments. The team brings together a deep bench of multidisciplinary engineers — civil, electrical, mechanical, geotechnical, environmental, grid, and project controls — all working within a highly structured international quality and governance framework.

Across Africa, the group is known for supporting high-impact energy programmes, grid-strengthening initiatives, and utility-scale renewable developments. These roles form part of the Owner’s Engineer team supporting six utility-scale Solar PV projects (totalling 1.28 GW), executed across three geographic clusters. Construction will take place in Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and the North West.

2. What You’ll Do

  • Oversee all mechanical construction activities for utility-scale Solar PV plants within the assigned two-project cluster.
  • Monitor installation of mounting structures, trackers, mechanical balance-of-plant systems, and associated plant components.
  • Verify that mechanical works comply with approved engineering designs, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Conduct mechanical inspections, review method statements, and ensure adherence to construction sequencing.
  • Coordinate daily with civil, electrical, and grid engineering teams to ensure integrated mechanical delivery.
  • Review contractor documentation, mechanical test records, and as-built information.
  • Identify risks impacting mechanical works and implement mitigation actions in line with OE processes.
  • Support the close-out of mechanical punch lists and readiness for commissioning.

3. What We’re Looking For

  • BSc / BTech / NDip Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10+ years mechanical engineering experience (desirable).
  • At least two utility-scale Solar PV projects completed in similar roles.
  • Minimum two years’ experience working in similar assignments with Owners Engineer.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and mitigate technical and construction risks.
  • Strong coordination skills across multi-disciplinary teams.

4. What We Offer

  • The opportunity to be part of an Owner’s Engineer team within a respected international engineering group.
  • Work directly with multicultural, international stakeholders, gaining exposure to global standards, methodologies, and project governance.
  • Hands-on oversight of two large utility-scale solar plants per cluster, offering depth and breadth of technical exposure.
  • A high-performance engineering environment with strong technical collaboration.
