Job Description

COMMISSIONING MANAGER - SITE (Owners Engineer)

1. Overview

This is a global engineering group with over a century of technical heritage and a footprint that spans Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. The organisation is recognised for delivering complex infrastructure, energy, and environmental projects across the full lifecycle — from feasibility and detailed design to construction oversight, commissioning, and operational support.

Its core expertise covers renewable energy, transmission and distribution, thermal generation, water and environmental infrastructure, nuclear engineering, and large industrial developments. The team brings together a deep bench of multidisciplinary engineers — civil, electrical, mechanical, geotechnical, environmental, grid, and project controls — all working within a highly structured international quality and governance framework.

Across Africa, the group is known for supporting high-impact energy programmes, grid-strengthening initiatives, and utility-scale renewable developments. These roles support the Owner’s Engineer function for six Solar PV projects (1.28 GW total), constructed across Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and the North West.

2. What You’ll Do

  • Lead commissioning activities for two large Solar PV projects within the assigned cluster.
  • Oversee functional testing, energisation, synchronisation, and performance verification.
  • Coordinate commissioning readiness across electrical, mechanical, communications, SCADA, and protection systems.
  • Review commissioning documentation, test plans, method statements, and results.
  • Ensure compliance with technical standards and project specifications during all commissioning stages.
  • Manage punch lists, issue resolution, documentation, and final handover requirements.
  • Identify commissioning risks and ensure appropriate mitigation strategies are implemented.

3. What We’re Looking For

  • BSc / BTech Electrical Engineering.
  • PrEng or PrTechEng (ECSA).
  • Relevant Solar PV commissioning experience and project management competency.
  • Minimum 8 years commissioning management experience.
  • At least five Solar PV projects completed in similar roles.
  • Minimum two years’ experience with Owners Engineers.
  • Strong electrical engineering background and cross-disciplinary coordination ability.

4. What We Offer

  • The opportunity to be part of an Owner’s Engineer team within a respected international engineering group.
  • Work directly with multicultural, international stakeholders, gaining exposure to global standards, methodologies, and project governance.
  • Hands-on oversight of two large utility-scale solar plants per cluster, offering depth and breadth of technical exposure.
  • A high-performance engineering environment with strong technical collaboration.
