Job Description

Overview

A leading renewable energy developer and operator is seeking a Head of Asset Management to lead its South African asset management team, reporting into the Chief Asset Officer.

The role is responsible for overseeing the operational fleet of wind, solar, and storage assets, ensuring optimal performance, minimised operational costs, and compliance with safety, contractual, and regulatory requirements.

This position plays a key role in maximising return on investment, managing third-party contracts, and aligning local operations with global best practices.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and develop the asset management team, including planning activities, providing direction, identifying training needs, and driving performance improvement.
  • Oversee the performance optimisation of operational assets, maximising turnover and minimising OPEX.
  • Manage and optimise key contracts, including O&M agreements, PPAs, implementation agreements, and land rights.
  • Ensure effective health and safety supervision for all operating assets, coordinating with O&M providers, H&S consultants, and inspection bodies.
  • Direct and oversee the resolution of major technical issues, including large component replacements and significant maintenance activities.
  • Prepare and deliver reports to internal stakeholders, shareholders, lenders, authorities, grid operators, and landowners.
  • Liaise with international asset management and operations teams to access technical support and share best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and company health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement of asset performance through technology upgrades and operational refinements.
  • Travel regularly to project sites across South Africa to oversee operations and engage stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For

  • Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in asset management of utility-scale wind, solar, and storage facilities. Consideration may be given to candidates with extensive O&M, construction, or other power generation experience.
  • Proven leadership and people management track record in a senior capacity.
  • Strong commercial and technical acumen, demonstrated through successful contract management (e.g., O&M contracts, PPAs).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of Xhosa or Afrikaans advantageous.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively within South Africa.

What We Offer

  • Leadership role within a growing renewable energy portfolio across South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Exposure to a diverse range of wind, solar, and storage assets.
  • Opportunity to shape operational performance strategies and influence commercial outcomes.
