Overview

A leading player in the South African renewable energy market is seeking a seasoned consultant to support commercial and industrial (C&I) customer acquisition efforts. With distributed generation (DG) deployment gaining traction and no centralised procurement mechanism (unlike REIPPPP), this role is critical in building long-term client relationships and originating offtake opportunities. The role is part-time (±3 days per week), ideally suited to a retired or semi-retired individual with deep networks and industry credibility.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Proactively identify and engage C&I customers seeking renewable energy solutions, including solar PV, wind, and battery storage.
  • Originate and convert leads into bankable offtake agreements, tailored to client requirements.
  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with decision-makers across mining, industrial, and energy-intensive sectors.
  • Assess client energy consumption profiles, evaluate creditworthiness, and structure commercial offers.
  • Collaborate with internal technical teams to align proposed solutions with client needs and operational feasibility.
  • Monitor regulatory developments, market trends, and policy shifts to inform customer targeting strategy.
  • Support the company’s strategic ambition to reach 1.6GW by 2030 through focused customer acquisition.

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Extensive knowledge of the South African energy landscape, particularly C&I wheeling, IPP frameworks, and distributed generation.
  • Proven track record in lead origination and C&I offtake deal execution within the renewable energy or industrial sectors.
  • Strong network within mining, heavy industry, or energy-intensive user groups (e.g., EIUG).
  • Commercial and technical fluency in energy project structuring, credit assessment, and solution development.
  • Ability to operate autonomously in a hybrid work setup with strategic oversight and stakeholder influence.
  • Prior experience in roles such as:Investment banker focused on energy/mining, executive in mining or industrial firm with energy remit, senior sales professional in companies like Wartsila, Aggreko, or similar.
