Overview

A leading renewable energy IPP seeks a Stakeholder Relations Manager to drive proactive engagement with communities, government bodies, and key stakeholders linked to its operational and development-stage projects. This role forms part of the Asset Management team and is essential in managing social risk, maintaining a positive reputation, and aligning with ESMS and compliance frameworks across sites in South Africa and the broader Africa region.

What You’ll Do

  • Map and analyse project-specific stakeholders, including communities, NGOs, and government representatives.
  • Develop and implement Stakeholder Engagement Plans aligned with ESMS requirements.
  • Coordinate regular community and stakeholder engagement forums, ensuring accurate records are maintained.
  • Oversee site-specific grievance mechanisms and ensure timely resolution and close-out of all complaints.
  • Provide risk analysis and mitigation recommendations related to stakeholder dynamics.
  • Manage Community Relations Managers assigned to individual project sites.
  • Support identification and facilitation of community investment and socio-economic development initiatives (SED/EnD).
  • Liaise with internal teams and report on reputational risk, stakeholder issues, and engagement outcomes.
  • Travel to site locations across South Africa and, where needed, the broader Africa region.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in stakeholder or community engagement, ideally in renewable energy or infrastructure.
  • Solid knowledge of REIPPPP and private energy market social requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with stakeholder mapping, grievance mechanisms, and conflict resolution.
  • Proven ability to engage constructively with government, community leaders, and NGOs.
  • Strong interpersonal, reporting, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead site-based teams and engage across seniority levels.
  • Willingness to travel and be present on-site during construction and operational phases.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to influence and manage stakeholder relations on utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Exposure to both private and public sector engagement within the REIPPPP framework.
  • Work within a purpose-driven, high-impact team focused on social and environmental compliance.
