Overview
An international leader in utility-scale renewable energy is seeking a skilled Financial Modeller to support their South African bidding team. This role is critical to the development of complex financial models and project finance structures for large-scale renewable energy projects across solar, wind, and hybrid technologies. The modeller will play a key role in shaping bid strategies by analysing deal structures, funding options, and financial risks within high-value transactions.
What You’ll Do
- Build, review, and refine detailed project finance models for complex renewable energy projects (utility-scale)
- Structure and analyse project finance transactions, incorporating debt, equity, and hybrid funding mechanisms
- Support bidding activities by modelling investment returns, debt sizing, and bankability metrics aligned with project risks
- Integrate technical, commercial, and legal assumptions into financial models in collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Conduct sensitivity analyses, scenario testing, and risk assessments for bid optimisation and investment decisions
- Prepare model-based inputs and presentations for internal investment committees, DFIs, and lender due diligence
- Engage with external advisors, lenders, and equity partners to support financial close processes and model audit readiness
- Maintain and improve internal modelling frameworks and ensure compliance with best-practice project finance standards
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in financial modelling, with at least 2 years in renewable energy project finance
- Strong track record building and managing complex models for large-scale infrastructure or energy projects
- Deep understanding of project finance principles including debt sizing, DSCR/LLCR metrics, funding waterfalls, and risk allocation
- Advanced Excel modelling skills with ability to build models from scratch for bidding and financial close purposes
- Experience in competitive bidding environments (e.g., REIPPPP or international energy tenders)
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field;
- Familiarity with the South African energy market and regulatory frameworks affecting project financing
