Overview

The Contracts Manager will oversee all contractual matters across the project lifecycle to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and ensure successful agreement execution.

This involves managing contracts from negotiation and drafting to execution and close-out while fostering strong relationships with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.

The role plays a critical part in aligning project objectives with legal and regulatory requirements, contributing to the successful construction of the wind farm within scope, schedule, and budget.

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Contribute to Project Management Processes:
  • Update the risk and opportunity matrix, focusing on contract execution and mitigation measures.
  • Support the drafting of the Project Management Plan.
Administration of Contracts:
  • Maintain comprehensive records of facts, events, correspondence, and meeting minutes.
  • Monitor issuance and validity of bonds, security, and guarantees.
  • Ensure proper document management, including sorting project contracts, letters, emails, and claims.
  • Track supplier and contractor performance, coordinating with Category Lead Buyers.
  • Organize periodic contractual review meetings and contribute to progress reports.
  • Draft contractual letters to stakeholders and document any contractual discrepancies.
Change Order Control and Management:
  • Implement and oversee the change order procedure, validating requests and maintaining records.
  • Manage claims in collaboration with internal and external legal teams.
  • Coordinate claim investigations, prepare counterclaims, and participate in litigation as needed.
Contractual Awareness and Communication:
  • Familiarize all employees with key contracts, agreements, and obligations.
  • Provide permanent support to reinforce commercial and contractual awareness.
Reporting:
  • Produce monthly reports, change order reports, claims inputs, and other required documentation for stakeholders, including lenders, insurers, and regulatory authorities.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

Experience and Skills:

  • Specific experience within the renewable energy space of split contracts during the construction phase is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in contract management, particularly within project finance or renewable energy projects.
  • Specific experience within the renewable energy space split contracts during the construction phase.
  • Familiarity with the following key contracts is highly advantageous:
    • Wind Turbine Supply Agreement
    • Balance of Plant Agreement (civil and electrical components)
    • Power Purchase Agreements (PPA)
    • Eskom Connection Works
    • Facility Agreements and related direct agreements
    • Lease Agreements
    • O&M Agreements (turbine and balance of plant-specific)
    • Owner's Engineer and Independent Engineer Agreements
  • Strong ability to manage contractual risks, discrepancies, and claims.
  • Proven experience with change order procedures and managing contract compliance.
  • Proficiency in creating and maintaining document management systems.
