Overview

 

A renewable energy business operating within South Africa’s utilityscale wind and solar sector is recruiting a Business Development Officer to support new project identification, assessment, and documentation. The organisation forms part of a large international engineering and energy group with extensive global experience across the renewable energy value chain, including project development, construction, and operations. This role supports earlystage development activities through structured research, data gathering, preliminary project evaluation, and documentation management.

 

What you'll do

 

  • Conduct ongoing tracking of IRP updates, REIPPPP developments, and gridrelated policy trends.
  • Prepare market intelligence reports and competitor analyses.
  • Identify potential wind and solar sites and potential development partners.
  • Initiate contact with renewable energy developers where aligned with development needs.
  • Collect siterelated information, including GIS data, technical information, and environmental constraints.
  • Support earlystage feasibility assessments, including resource data, land rights, and environmental considerations.
  • Assist with grid enquiry submissions and related information requests.
  • Support project developers with project governance tasks, including stakeholder engagement, scope definition, cost control, risk management, quality, procurement, communication, HSE, sustainability, and scheduling.
  • Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, take minutes, follow up on action items, and maintain project trackers and schedules.
  • Prepare project folders, presentations, screening reports, and data room structures.
  • Assist with approvals documentation, internal submissions, and formatting requirements.
  • Support compliancerelated activities including anticorruption duediligence processes, mitigation actions, and audit responses.
  • Assist in administering project development contracts, tracking deliverables, milestones, and action items.
  • Maintain structured development documentation systems.
  • Contribute to professional PowerPoint slides for internal and external use.
  • Assist with travel coordination and timely processing of expense claims in line with company procedures.
  • Maintain meeting records and structured documentation of team activities.

 

 

What we're looking for

 

  • Degree in Renewable Energy, Business Administration, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years’ relevant experience.
  • Ability to conduct research, analyse information, and prepare clear reports.
  • GIS capability or exposure advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills and interest in the renewable energy landscape.
  • Exposure to REIPPPP bid preparation is beneficial but not required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Teamoriented approach with willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently on defined tasks.
