Our client is a leading IPP in South Africa’s renewable energy landscape, based in Cape Town. This role is based full time in the office. Our client has an enviable culture and pro-employee environment.

The Project Financial Controller supports the Asset Management team across a portfolio of renewable energy project companies, from financial close through construction and into operations.

The role is responsible for managing the full finance function at project company level and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

• Run and maintain the finance function for a portfolio of project companies during construction and operations
• Verify payment certificates, Eskom use-of-system charges, and manage customer/off-taker invoicing
• Manage cost control, budget preparation, and variance analysis across project companies
• Maintain loan registers, including drawdowns, repayments, and interest calculations
• Prepare and update monthly cash flow forecasts and submit required reporting internally
• Execute payment processes, including beneficiary setup, payment instructions, BOP forms, and SARB-related requirements
• Prepare monthly management accounts, quarterly reporting packs, and support annual financial statements
• Act as the primary financial interface with facility agents and lenders
• Manage tax compliance, including VAT and withholding tax reviews, and support income tax submissions
• Support audits (AFS, ED, B-BBEE) and ensure compliance with finance documents and timelines
• Maintain and manage financial data rooms for project companies
• Monitor shareholder obligations, equity and debt drawdowns, dividend distributions, and lender repayments
• Interpret and work with financial models to manage construction budgets and covenant compliance
• Support contract administration and financial compliance across EPC, O&M, insurance, and utility agreements
• Ensure governance, statutory reporting compliance, and company secretarial alignment
• Prepare minutes for EXCO and Construction Committee meetings where required

What We’re Looking For

• Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Business Law, or similar
• 3–5 years’ experience in a project finance, financial controller, or similar role
• Experience managing project company finance functions across construction and/or operations phases
• Strong working knowledge of budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and variance analysis
• Advanced Excel capability
• Experience working with lenders, facility agents, and financial reporting obligations
• Exposure to renewable energy projects is advantageous
• Strong analytical capability with high attention to detail
• Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and manage deadlines
