Job Description
Overview
An established renewable energy asset owner operating a utility-scale power generation facility requires a Senior Financial Accountant to support the ongoing financial, tax, and statutory reporting of a long-term operational asset.
This role sits within the finance team and supports a complex project finance structure governed by IFRS and long-term contractual agreements. The position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and financial integrity across the business. This role is based in JHB North, and is a permanent role.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare monthly management accounts in accordance with IFRS
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end reporting through internal reporting systems
- Perform detailed variance analysis against budget and forecasts, providing clear explanations
- Maintain oversight of reporting models, including long-term accounting models
- Compile monthly best estimates and analyse performance trends
- Prepare annual financial statements and support external audit processes
- Liaise with auditors and support all audit-related engagements
- Ensure full compliance with tax, statutory, and regulatory requirements
- Prepare and submit statutory returns including VAT, EMP, and income tax filings
- Manage day-to-day project accounting in line with applicable accounting standards
- Maintain accurate accounting records and balance sheet reconciliations
- Review and verify supplier and customer invoices against contractual documentation
- Perform bank reconciliations and liaise with banking institutions as required
- Ensure adherence to internal control frameworks and financial governance
- Support procurement and administrative functions where they intersect with finance
- Contribute to social and economic development reporting requirements
- Establish clear communication within the finance team and broader project team
What We’re Looking For
- CA (SA) qualification
- Articles completed at a Big Four audit firm
- Minimum of 5 years post-articles experience
- Strong technical IFRS capability; IFRIC 12 exposure advantageous
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (beyond basic reporting)
- Experience using ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics (Great Plains) and SAP
- Proven experience in financial reporting, tax compliance, and audit coordination
- Strong internal controls and process-driven mindset
- Ability to work under pressure, manage deadlines, and operate independently
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to link financial results to business drivers
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in a project finance or asset-based environment advantageous
- Exposure to the electricity or energy sector advantageous
