Job Description

SITE AGENT – CONSTRUCTION (Owners Engineer)

1. Overview

This is a global engineering group with over a century of technical heritage and a footprint that spans Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. The organisation is recognised for delivering complex infrastructure, energy, and environmental projects across the full lifecycle — from feasibility and detailed design to construction oversight, commissioning, and operational support.

Its core expertise covers renewable energy, transmission and distribution, thermal generation, water and environmental infrastructure, nuclear engineering, and large industrial developments. The team brings together a deep bench of multidisciplinary engineers — civil, electrical, mechanical, geotechnical, environmental, grid, and project controls — all working within a highly structured international quality and governance framework.

Across Africa, the group is known for supporting high-impact energy programmes, grid-strengthening initiatives, and utility-scale renewable developments. These roles sit within one of South Africa’s largest upcoming utility-scale solar build programmes: six Solar PV projects (totalling 1.28 GW), clustered into three construction packages (two projects per cluster).

Construction will take place across:

Mpumalanga | Limpopo | North West

Site Agents form part of the Owner’s Engineer (OE) team, overseeing EPC execution, ensuring compliance, and safeguarding delivery quality, safety, and schedule across each cluster.

2. What You’ll Do

  • Oversee full construction execution for two utility-scale Solar PV plants within an assigned cluster.
  • Manage all on-site activities, construction sequencing, logistics, and daily coordination with EPC teams, subcontractors, and engineering leads.
  • Lead and control large direct labour and subcontractor teams (500+ workforce) in remote-site conditions.
  • Drive and uphold a strict Zero Harm safety culture. (Non-negotiable)
  • Monitor construction progress, workmanship, and compliance with approved design specifications (PV + 132 kV substation scopes).
  • Work closely with engineering, planning, commercial, and quality teams to resolve issues proactively.
  • Oversee reporting, site instructions, contractor supervision, and progress tracking.
  • Conduct risk identification and mitigation throughout construction phases.
  • Support commissioning readiness, punch lists, and project handover to operations.

3. What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years construction management experience on large industrial or energy projects.
  • Previous 2 years’ experience working for an Owners Engineer team.
  • Minimum 2 x utility-scale Solar PV projects at comparable scale delivered.
  • Experience with 132 kV substation construction and REIPPPP-level execution.
  • Background delivering 500 MW+ cumulative EPC/IPP/OE projects.
  • Proven leadership of large, multi-disciplinary workforce teams (500+ people).
  • Strong engineering foundation (civil / mechanical / electrical).
  • Deep understanding of construction sequencing, logistics, quality, coordination, and problem solving.
  • Ability to lead multicultural teams in remote environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication (non-negotiable).
  • Strong construction risk identification and mitigation ability.

4. What We Offer

  • The opportunity to be part of an Owner’s Engineer team within a respected international engineering group.
  • Work directly with multicultural, international stakeholders, gaining exposure to global standards, methodologies, and project governance.
  • Hands-on oversight of two large utility-scale solar plants per cluster, offering depth and breadth of technical exposure.
  • A high-performance engineering environment with strong technical collaboration.
