Overview
We’re looking for a seasoned professional with 15+ years of experience in South Africa’s water infrastructure sector — someone who understands the nuances of long-standing stakeholder relationships, is fluent in Afrikaans, and brings deep technical insight shaped by years of hands-on delivery.
What You’ll Do
- Manage on-site construction of river abstraction and dam works, ensuring effective team coordination and timely problem resolution.
- Oversee civil works including site preparation, foundation treatment, and construction of reinforced concrete structures such as gravity weirs, pump stations, valve chambers, and retaining walls.
- Lead mechanical installations, including design and assembly of hydraulic systems such as radial gates, hoists, and cranes.
- Supervise electrical, control, and instrumentation installations including power supply, lighting, PLC-based control systems, and related automation infrastructure.
- Enforce safety management systems, conduct regular safety training, and proactively eliminate risks through site inspections and hazard control.
- Serve as a liaison with the design unit, owner’s team, and supervision consultants; report site progress and coordinate resolution of design or execution issues.
- Engage with local community stakeholders to manage social impact and address construction-related disturbances.
- Maintain accurate documentation, archive construction records, and submit regular reports on progress, quality, and safety compliance.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the construction of reinforced concrete structures associated with bulk water infrastructure such as pipelines, reservoirs, pump stations, and valve chambers.
- Qualification in a relevant trade, or a diploma/degree (NQF Level 6 or equivalent) in Construction Management or Engineering. Foreign qualifications must be SAQA-accredited.
- Professional registration with ECSA or SACPCMP (advantageous;).
- Proven experience managing complex civil and mechanical construction sites in water infrastructure.
- Familiarity with electrical and instrumentation systems related to waterworks operations.
- Strong stakeholder communication and reporting capabilities.
- Willingness to be site-based in Limpopo for the duration of the project.
