Job Description

Our client is a reputable IPP based in Cape Town, known for its strong company culture and commitment to a positive work environment. This is a two-year contract, with the project site located in the Swellendam area.

 

General Description:

  • Site/Construction Management activities on renewable energy projects (solar, wind, biomass and hydro); focused on and specifically responsible for Overhead Line and Grid Interconnection works (Main Transmission substation).
  • Supervise the activities of Contractors in renewable energy projects (solar, wind, biomass and hydro); focused on and specifically responsible for Overhead Line and Grid Interconnection works.

 

Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; engineering background is preferred;
  • An appropriate engineering qualification with extensive applicable experience will be considered as an alternative.
  • 5+ years as a Site Superintendent
  • Expertise in renewable projects is preferred
  • South African citizen

Responsibilities:

  • General:
    • Use reasonable endeavours to remain abreast with market and technological developments and to identify new technologies that may contribute towards the development of the Business and improvements in the Company
    • Foster and lead a corporate culture that promotes sustainable ethical practices, encourages individual integrity and fulfils social responsibility objectives and imperatives
    • Recommending policy and procedure improvements;
    • Ensuring overall compliance to all the internal Policy and Procedures of the Company, including compliance with Corporate ESMS (Environmental, Social, Management System), IFC Standards and Equator Principles
    • Carry out duties in a proper, loyal and efficient manner to the best of their ability and at all times act in good faith and use their best endeavours to properly conduct, improve, extend, develop, promote, protect and preserve the business interests, reputation and goodwill of the Company and not do anything or engage in any activity which is or may become harmful or contrary to such interests
    • Immediately disclose to the Company any information which comes to their knowledge and which does, or may, lead to them not being lawfully able to perform their duties or responsibilities.

 

  • Execution Phase (Construction and Commissioning):
    • Be aligned with the policies and procedures of the Company
    • Ensure that site rules are properly implemented and lead as example
    • In support of the Project Manager, coordinating and supervising construction works, ensuring that the client’s specifications and requirements are met, reviewing progress and liaising with the Tx EPC Contractor and other appointed construction contractors (together the “Construction Contractors”)
    • Supervising and reporting activities on site assuring that timeline, quality and costs of each activity is performed correctly in all the phases of the project
    • Liaising with the Project Manager, other construction professionals (Health and Safety Manager, Commissioning Manager, Quality Manager, etc…) and, sometimes, members of the main authorities (utilities, etc…)
    • Ensuring ESMS (Environmental and Social Management System) of the Company are properly implemented on site by the Construction Contractors
    • Ensure that the Project is going to be design and built in accordance with law and all relevant permits (EIA, EMPr, water authorisation, building permits, etc…) and land leases
    • Overseeing the Contractor’s Site Managers for the MTS and OHL and Interconnection works on site and give advice where appropriately
    • Managing interfacing and planning between Eskom, Tx EPC contractor, Community and other affected stakeholders, as well as other Construction Contractors, where applicable
    • Monitor the schedule throughout the process, report deviations and variances, and assist in developing alternate methods for corrective action;
    • Making safety inspections and ensuring construction and site safety
    • Checking and preparing site reports (daily, weekly and monthly as required);
    • Maintaining quality control procedures
    • Verify the completeness and accuracy of the "as-built" documentation to be provided by the Construction Contractors
    • Maintain observation reports/logs including work description, work methods, contractors on site, weather conditions, observations, photos, etc.
    • Attend, or conduct, periodic construction progress meetings with the Tx EPC contractor and other Construction Contractors where applicable
    • Review progress billings from the Tx EPC contractor (and/or other Construction Contractors where applicable) and when necessary, negotiate revisions in alignment with the Project Manager.
    • Ensure stakeholders satisfaction at all times i.e. Landowners and Local Community
    • Keeping record if delays of works and its accurate causes for control purposes
    • Furthermore, as required in coordination with the Project Manager:
    • Responsible to define site rules in alignment with the Company and the Project Manager
    • Ensure that the Company policy and procedure in terms of food and car management are properly implemented on site
    • Assisting with punch listing and other project completion activities in coordination with the Commissioning Manager and O&M team
