Overview
The Quality Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring quality standards are met within projects, including works undertaken by the company and those of suppliers, subcontractors, and stakeholders. The successful candidate will be trustworthy, proactive, and a proven leader with extensive engineering experience (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Commissioning). This role requires building and managing a diverse team of quality engineers, formulating and executing quality strategies, and collaborating with other project managers.
To succeed, the candidate must have strong foresight, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of various project disciplines, including Health & Safety, Environmental, Procurement, Construction Management, Logistics, and Planning. They must also have a solid grasp of risk management, particularly quality risks, and appreciate the complexity of large-scale projects.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee project quality, ensuring compliance with local codes, standards, laws, and regulations.
- Implement and manage the Project Quality Management Plan, ensuring adherence to contract requirements.
- Define and enforce project-specific quality procedures, including Inspection Test Plans, Quality Control Plans, and Check Sheets.
- Ensure the training and competency of project team members regarding quality standards.
- Monitor and report on quality performance, conducting audits, root cause analyses, and lessons learned reviews.
- Manage quality risks and opportunities arising from contractual obligations.
- Ensure project quality requirements are integrated into supplier and subcontractor contracts, maintaining a high standard of QA/QC.
- Conduct quality training sessions and project quality kick-off meetings.
- Lead quality control aspects of project reviews, ensuring issues are proactively addressed.
- Assign tasks and manage project quality personnel, ensuring deliverables meet organizational and employer specifications.
- Prepare and issue weekly and monthly quality reports.
- Manage and oversee Construction Data Packs, ensuring proper documentation.
- Represent the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) team in customer quality discussions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure the timely closing of inspection reports, NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports), and CARs (Corrective Action Reports).
- Conduct project audits, follow up on action items, and ensure compliance with customer quality requirements.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications & Certifications
- B. Degree/Diploma in Quality Management, Engineering, or equivalent.
- Certification in ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management Systems) from a recognized institution (e.g., SABS).
- Certification in ISO 19011 (Guidelines for Auditing Management Systems).
- Strong knowledge of Quality Standards (e.g., ISO-IEC 17025-2017, ISO 10005, ISO 9000, ISO 9004).
- Familiarity with Construction Standards (e.g., SANS 1200 Series, SANS 10400, SANS 10142-1/2/3).
- A Project Management qualification is advantageous.
Experience & Skills
- 5+ years of experience as a Quality Manager in the renewable energy sector (preferably BESS projects).
- Proven track record of managing at least 3 projects in a similar role.
- Extensive technical knowledge of construction and project execution.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken in English.
- Strong project management and people management abilities.
- High attention to detail with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and project management tools.
