Overview

Join the Oasis Project, a significant Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) initiative in South Africa, comprising three sites:

  • Oasis Mookodi: 77 MW capacity with 308 MWh storage.
  • Oasis Aggeneis: 77 MW capacity with 308 MWh storage.
  • Oasis Nieuwehoop: 103 MW capacity with 412 MWh storage.

As the ED Manager, for this international EPC, you will be based in the Northern Cape or North West Province, overseeing economic development initiatives across these locations.

This 1-year contract offers a unique opportunity to lead ED strategies in a cutting-edge renewable energy project, ensuring compliance and fostering community engagement.

What You'll Do

As the Economic Development Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and Implementing ED Strategies: Design and execute comprehensive economic development plans that align with project goals and community needs.
  • Ensuring Compliance: Monitor and ensure adherence to all relevant economic development commitments, including those outlined in the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with local communities, government entities, and other stakeholders to facilitate project success.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Oversee the implementation of ED initiatives, ensuring they meet predefined objectives and deliver tangible benefits to host communities.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit detailed reports on ED activities to relevant authorities and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and support Community Liaison Officers (CLOs) and other team members involved in ED activities.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks related to economic development and implement mitigation strategies to address them.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Economics, or a related field; a postgraduate degree is advantageous.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in economic development roles, preferably within the renewable energy sector.
  • Experience in the Northern Cape or North West Province is essential.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the REIPPPP, BBBEE requirements, and socio-economic development best practices.
  • Skills:
    • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
    • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
    • Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical skills to assess project impacts and outcomes.
    • Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to work effectively in multicultural environments and understand community dynamics.
    • Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
