Overview
Join the Oasis Project, a significant Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) initiative in South Africa, comprising three sites:
- Oasis Mookodi: 77 MW capacity with 308 MWh storage.
- Oasis Aggeneis: 77 MW capacity with 308 MWh storage.
- Oasis Nieuwehoop: 103 MW capacity with 412 MWh storage.
As the HSE Manager, for an international EPC, you will be based on-site, overseeing health, safety, and environmental aspects across these locations.
This role offers a unique opportunity to lead HSE initiatives in a cutting-edge renewable energy project, ensuring compliance and promoting a culture of safety.
What You'll Do
As the HSE Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and Implementing HSE Policies: Create and enforce comprehensive health, safety, and environmental policies tailored to the project's needs.
- Ensuring Regulatory Compliance: Maintain adherence to all relevant local and international HSE regulations and standards.
- Conducting Risk Assessments: Identify potential hazards and implement measures to mitigate risks associated with construction and operation activities.
- Leading Safety Training: Organize and conduct HSE training programs to educate staff and contractors on best practices and safety procedures.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Oversee HSE performance, conduct regular site inspections, and prepare detailed reports for management and stakeholders.
- Incident Management: Lead investigations into any incidents or near-misses, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Promoting a Safety Culture: Foster an environment where safety is prioritized, encouraging proactive identification and resolution of HSE issues.
What We're Looking For
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification: Registered with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) as a Construction Health and Safety Manager (CHSM).
Experience:
- Industry Experience: Minimum of 5 years in HSE management within large-scale infrastructure or energy projects, with a preference for experience in renewable energy or BESS projects.
- Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of South African HSE legislation and international standards applicable to construction and energy sectors.
Skills:
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate teams towards achieving HSE objectives.
- Analytical Skills: Strong capability in conducting risk assessments and interpreting HSE data to inform decision-making.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey HSE information to diverse audiences.
- Problem-Solving: Demonstrated aptitude for identifying issues and implementing effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to monitoring compliance and documenting HSE activities.
