Role Overview

The Contract Director carries overall accountability for the delivery of a major road infrastructure upgrade contract. This senior leadership role provides strategic oversight and direction across construction, commercial, contractual, and stakeholder management functions, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to specification. The position requires strong governance, risk management, and client engagement capability throughout the full project lifecycle.

Contract Duration 53 months including 5 months mobilisation. All roles are project-based and require full-time on-site commitment for the contract duration.

 

What You Will Do

  • Take end-to-end accountability for contract delivery, ensuring programme, quality, cost, and safety objectives are achieved.
  • Provide strategic oversight of the construction programme, resource planning, and cash flow management.
  • Lead commercial and contractual management, including claims, variations, and dispute resolution where required.
  • Maintain and manage senior client relationships, including SANRAL and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversee governance, reporting, compliance, and risk management across all phases of the project.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the multi-disciplinary site management and professional team.
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate contractual, commercial, and delivery risks throughout the project lifecycle.

What Were Looking For

Minimum Requirements

  • Active professional registration with ECSA as Professional Engineer (PrEng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (PrTechEng), or active registration with SACPCMP as Construction Manager or Construction Project Manager.
  • Minimum qualification: National Diploma in Civil Engineering (NQF 6).
  • Preferred qualification: BEng or BTech in Civil Engineering or equivalent (NQF 7 or higher).

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 yearsexperience in senior contract or project management roles within civil infrastructure.
  • Proven track record on road construction or road upgrade projects, preferably national routes.
  • Experience managing contracts with construction values of R200 million or more (inclusive of VAT) is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with SANRAL or equivalent government clients is advantageous.

  • Certified copy of highest academic qualification (minimum NQF 6 in Civil Engineering).
  • Project experience record for at least four (4) projects within the last 15 years, including client details, contact person, contract value, scope, dates, and role performed.
  • Proof of participation or completion documentation for each project submitted (Practical Completion Certificate, Letter of Award, or client reference letter).
