Role Overview

The Construction Manager (Site Agent) is responsible for the day-to-day technical and operational management of a major road upgrade project. Reporting to the Contract Director, this role leads on-site execution, quality, programme adherence, and coordination of all construction activities across the project corridor. The role carries full accountability for construction delivery, contract compliance, and stakeholder coordination on site.

Contract Duration 53 months including 5 months mobilisation. All roles are project-based and require full-time on-site commitment for the contract duration.

 

What You Will Do

  • Manage and coordinate all on-site construction activities and site teams on a day-to-day basis.
  • Plan, execute, monitor, and control construction operations in line with programme, quality, and cost requirements.
  • Maintain and update construction schedules, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Ensure works are executed in accordance with contract documentation, drawings, specifications, and approved method statements.
  • Manage subcontractors, labour, plant, materials, and logistics across the construction corridor.
  • Maintain accurate site records, daily reports, progress claims, and technical documentation.
  • Act as the primary on-site liaison with the Engineers Representative and other project stakeholders.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems.

 

What Were Looking For

Minimum Requirements

  • Active professional registration with ECSA (PrEng or PrTechEng) or active registration with SACPCMP as Construction Manager or Construction Project Manager.
  • National Diploma in Civil Engineering (NQF 6) is mandatory.
  • A BEng or BTech in Civil Engineering (NQF 7 or higher) is advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum of 8 yearsexperience in construction management on civil engineering projects.
  • Proven experience as a Site Agent or Construction Manager on road construction or road upgrade projects.
  • Experience on projects with a construction value of R200 million or more is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of SANRAL projects and COLTO / TMH specifications will be advantageous.

  • Proof of active professional registration with ECSA or SACPCMP.
  • Certified copy of highest academic qualification (minimum NQF 6).
  • Project experience record for at least four (4) projects completed or under construction within the last 15 years, including client details, project value, scope, dates, and role performed.
  • Proof of participation or completion documentation for each project submitted (Practical Completion Certificate, Letter of Award, or client reference letter).
