Overview
A globally recognized, insurance brokerage — the largest privately held independent broker globally — is expanding its renewable energy capability in South Africa and selected African markets.
Operating in over 125 countries and advising on complex infrastructure, construction and energy risks worldwide, the organisation offers global insurer access, deep technical advisory capability and financial scale, while retaining the agility and independence of a privately owned structure.
This appointment is responsible for building and leading the renewable energy growth strategy locally, originating lifecycle-based risk advisory mandates across renewable energy projects spanning development, financial close, construction, commissioning and operational phases.
The role requires strong sector credibility, commercial maturity and the ability to convert established industry relationships into sustainable revenue streams, positioning the organisation as a long-term renewable energy partner within the market.
Technical structuring capability will be supported internally.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Market Development
- Develop and execute a renewable energy market expansion strategy
- Originate new advisory mandates across utility-scale and C&I renewable projects
- Build and deepen executive-level relationships across IPPs, developers, EPCs, lenders, OEMs and infrastructure investors
- Engage at board, lender and investment committee level
- Build and manage a measurable, forward-looking revenue pipeline
Lifecycle Engagement
- Engage renewable energy projects across development, financial close, construction, commissioning and operational phases
- Contribute to structuring phase-appropriate risk discussions aligned to each stage of the project lifecycle
- Work collaboratively with internal technical teams to support integrated risk solutions
- Participate in executive-level discussions relating to complex client risk matters where required
Commercial Accountability
- Drive new revenue aligned to agreed strategic growth targets
- Protect and expand renewable portfolio retention levels
- Monitor market dynamics impacting renewable energy risk positioning
- Position the organisation as a long-term renewable energy partner rather than a transactional broker
What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years’ experience within the renewable energy ecosystem
- Demonstrated ability to originate and close commercially significant opportunities
- Deep, credible network across renewable energy decision-makers in South Africa
- Strong understanding of renewable energy project lifecycle and commercial frameworks
- Ability to engage confidently in discussions around project risk and commercial structuring
- Executive presence with the ability to engage CEOs, CFOs and investment heads as a peer
- Commercially disciplined, strategically minded and revenue-driven
