Job Description
OVERVIEW
A South African property fund is seeking a Data Systems Engineer to support its ESG and sustainability programmes. The role is central to building and maintaining the digital infrastructure that enables data-driven decision-making across energy efficiency, environmental performance, and financial modelling. It supports operational and strategic initiatives across a growing logistics portfolio, with a focus on renewable-energy data systems.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Design, implement, and maintain robust data pipelines (ETL/ELT) to ingest data from IoT meters, SCADA systems, and financial platforms.
• Build and optimise relational and non-relational databases to manage high-frequency, high-volume datasets.
• Develop APIs and system integrations to automate data flow and improve operational efficiency.
• Apply data quality checks, anomaly detection, and reconciliation routines to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
• Deploy and operationalise AI/ML models for forecasting, anomaly detection, and optimisation.
• Support financial and technical modelling for renewable-energy and energy-efficiency investments.
• Collaborate with ESG, finance, and operations teams to align data systems with sustainability targets.
• Maintain version control and deployment pipelines in line with DevOps/MLOps practices.
• Document system architecture and data lineage to support audit and compliance requirements.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, or related quantitative field.
• 2–5 years’ experience in data engineering, software development, or applied analytics.
• Strong programming proficiency in Python.
• Hands-on experience with SQL/NoSQL databases, API development, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Exposure to DevOps/MLOps pipelines, version control, and automated deployment tools.
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software architecture principles.
• Proficiency in data visualisation and reporting tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
• Familiarity with energy systems data (e.g., solar PV, IoT, weather, tariff, or asset data) is advantageous.
WHAT WE OFFER
• Contribute to the digital backbone of a growing sustainability and ESG programme.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams across energy, finance, and operations.
• Gain exposure to data systems supporting large-scale logistics infrastructure and renewable-energy initiatives.
