Head of Advisory

Overview

The company is a specialised renewable energy consultancy with a strong track record of technical, commercial, and environmental advisory services spanning the full project lifecycle.

Its team has deep expertise across wind, solar, and energy storage technologies, and it supports clients from early-stage feasibility through development, implementation, and operational phases.

The business operates with an international footprint, having delivered over 130 projects across multiple continents and substantial cumulative capacity in wind, solar and battery storage, while also maintaining a strong commitment to quality, empowerment, and skills development in the renewable energy sector.

It is structured as a BBBEE Level 1 entity with a focus on developing local engineering and project management talent and embedding sustainability and excellence throughout its work.

The organisation is growing and scaling rapidly, requiring leaders who can balance strategic vision with hands-on involvement.

The Head of Advisory will lead the advisory function, providing strategic guidance, technical expertise, and commercial oversight across projects.

This role is central to shaping the company’s advisory offering, ensuring clients receive high-quality, practical, and commercially sound advice in the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors.

Beyond technical delivery, the Head of Advisory will be accountable for quality, commercial performance, and profit and loss, while engaging confidently with banks, pension funds, and infrastructure companies at an executive level to support funding and investment discussions.

What you will do

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and lead the advisory strategy in alignment with business growth objectives.
  • Position the advisory function as a trusted partner to clients and stakeholders.
  • Drive thought leadership and represent the business in industry forums and networks.

Technical and Commercial Advisory

  • Provide expert guidance on renewable energy, engineering, and infrastructure projects.
  • Oversee quality assurance across all advisory deliverables.
  • Manage commercial functions, including budgeting, pricing, and profit and loss accountability.
  • Advise clients on project feasibility, risk management, and commercial structuring.

Client Engagement and Funding

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring advisory services meet expectations.
  • Engage with banks, pension funds, and infrastructure companies at an executive level to support funding and investment discussions.
  • Lead advisory projects from initial scoping through to execution.
  • Translate complex technical and financial concepts into clear, actionable recommendations.

Team Development and Collaboration

  • Establish and grow the advisory team as the business scales.
  • Mentor and guide junior professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
  • Work closely with leadership and other functions to integrate advisory insights into broader business operations.

Operational Contribution

  • Support business development through proposals, presentations, and client pitches.
  • Contribute to internal processes to ensure efficiency and consistent quality in advisory delivery.
  • Step in hands-on where required, reflecting the entrepreneurial nature of the business.

What we're looking for

  • 10+ years’ experience in advisory, consulting, or technical leadership within engineering, construction, infrastructure, or renewable energy.
  • A strong track record of delivering strategic and technical advisory services.
  • Deep understanding of project lifecycles, risk management, and commercial frameworks.
  • Proven experience managing quality, commercial functions, and profit and loss.
  • Confidence engaging with banks, pension funds, and infrastructure companies at executive level on funding and investment matters.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership capability.
  • Hands-on, adaptable, and comfortable operating in a small but scaling business.
  • Relevant degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field; postgraduate qualification advantageous.

What we offer

  • A leadership role at the core of a growing renewable energy business.
  • The opportunity to shape and scale the advisory function from the ground up.
  • Exposure to high-impact projects across renewable energy and infrastructure.
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial environment that values initiative, expertise, and professionalism.
