Overview

An international front runner in infrastructure development is set to initiate a revolutionary and mammoth water project in Limpopo. The Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for leading the health and safety function across the construction site, implementing compliance systems, and ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all personnel in line with legal and contractual requirements.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Health and Safety Management Plan on site, ensuring subcontractor alignment and compliance.
  • Advise the Site Management team on health and safety matters, including risk identification and mitigation strategies.
  • Report directly to the Contractor’s Construction Manager (CR8(1)) and act with delegated authority on all health and safety matters.
  • Champion a safety-first culture that promotes safe work practices and proactively eliminates unsafe conditions and acts.
  • Ensure participation of all employees and subcontractors in health and safety initiatives and improvement processes.
  • Lead and participate in accident and incident investigations, ensuring root causes are addressed and recurrence is prevented.
  • Oversee completion and quality of Risk Assessments (RAs) and Daily Safety Task Instructions (DSTIs) before work begins; conduct a minimum of two site inspections per day to verify compliance.
  • Ensure SMI (Safety Management Information) boards are installed across work zones with essential safety and contact information displayed.
  • Coordinate all site access, security, and safety induction training—including site-specific inductions for client, management, and supervisory staff.
  • Ensure the collection and dissemination of daily incident reports from contractors, supervisors, and safety officers.
  • Maintain ongoing oversight of safety personnel and documentation to uphold a compliant, proactive health and safety environment throughout the construction period.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 10 years of health and safety management experience on construction sites.
  • Demonstrated experience in proactively preventing unsafe conditions and fostering a healthy working environment across large-scale projects.
  • Registration with SACPCMP in the designation of Construction Health and Safety Manager (CHSM) or equivalent
  • Relevant qualification at NQF Level 6 in line with project specifications. Foreign qualifications must be SAQA-accredited.
  • Proven experience conducting incident investigations, risk assessments, and enforcing contractor compliance.
  • Solid knowledge of OHS legislation, safety planning, and site-specific implementation practices.
  • Strong leadership presence and the ability to embed a culture of safety across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to be site-based in Limpopo for the duration of the project.
