Overview
An international front runner in infrastructure development is seeking a qualified Cost Engineer to support multidisciplinary infrastructure projects across South Africa. This permanent position is based in Midrand and requires occasional travel to project sites. The role focuses on cost estimation, control, and reporting across large-scale engineering projects.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and manage project cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts
- Operate Candy or similar cost estimation software for pricing and reporting
- Track project costs, monitor variances, and prepare progress reports
- Coordinate with project, finance, and procurement teams to ensure cost alignment
- Conduct site visits to verify quantities and monitor cost-related performance
- Assist in bid preparation and pricing of new tenders
- Support risk assessments and prepare supporting documentation for cost claims
- Ensure compliance with ASAQS standards and cost control best practices
- Work extended hours during peak phases and travel to project sites when required
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in cost engineering across water, road, and building projects
- South African qualification at NQF Level 6 or higher in Quantity Surveying or related field
- Registered member of ASAQS (mandatory)
- Proficiency in Candy or equivalent estimation software
- Strong understanding of FIDIC contracts and cost management principles
- Willingness to travel for project-related site work
- Flexibility to work overtime during peak delivery periods
- Prior experience working in Chinese-funded enterprises is advantageous
