Job Description
Role Overview
We are recruiting on behalf of a JSE-listed construction group with a strong positive reputation for their Renewable Energy division.
The business delivers electrical BoP construction on wind farm projects — underground cabling, substations, OHL construction, and MTS work.
This is a predominantly electrical environment. The division is two to three years old, flat out busy, and has a confirmed project pipeline.
The division is splitting its QA function — civil and electrical — and this hire leads the electrical side. You will own the full electrical quality assurance process on site.
You are not the person performing every inspection. You are the person who makes sure the process is set up correctly from day one, the right inspections happen in
the right order, the site engineers are doing what they need to do, and nothing gets missed on the way to handover.
Eskom self-build experience is non-negotiable. You need to know how a substation is built and how to get it signed off. That knowledge is what makes this role work.
Location: Site-based. One project at a time.
What You Will Do
- Set up the full electrical QA process on site before works commence — RTPs, QCPs, inspection sequences, and sign-off protocols
- Identify gaps in the QCP sequence before they become non-conformances — know what's missing before anyone else does
- Manage the site engineers — ensure inspections happen correctly, in the right sequence, and on time
- Navigate the Eskom sign-off process end-to-end — know who signs what, in what sequence, and what documentation they require
- Build and maintain all quality data books throughout the project lifecycle
- Manage sign-off between client, engineer, and consultant at every inspection milestone
- Raise NCRs, drive corrective actions, and confirm close-out before signing off
- Audit incoming materials against project specifications and material certificates
- Produce weekly and monthly QA progress reports for project management and the client
What Good Looks Like
Your QA framework is in place and signed off before the first electrical works commence. No work proceeds without an approved QCP.
You know the Eskom sign-off sequence without having to look it up and you are already in conversation with the right contacts before they become critical.
Non-conformances are identified and raised by you — not by the client, not by the engineer's representative.
Your NCRs are logged, tracked, and closed on time.
The PM gets a straight, accurate answer on QA status at any point because you always know exactly where things stand.
Data books are current and complete throughout the project.
At handover there are no outstanding sign-offs, no missing records, and no quality surprises.
The client signs off on time because the process behind it was run correctly from the start.
|
This role suits someone who is diligent and by the book — not because they're told to be, but because they understand what happens when you're not. If documentation falls behind and people have to chase you for sign-offs, this is not the right environment. |
What We're Looking For
Minimum requirements
— Minimum 5 years' on-site electrical experience in a QA or quality coordination role
— Eskom self-build experience — substations and/or OHLs — non-negotiable
— Solid working knowledge of the Eskom sign-off process and substation handover requirements
— Proficiency in SANS and Eskom construction standards
— Proven QA documentation skills — data books, RTPs, QCPs, NCRs, inspection records
— Organised and diligent by nature
Preferred
- Electrical degree or BTech in Electrical Engineering — enables you to perform inspections as well as manage the process
- Wireman's licence — accepted in lieu of degree or BTech
- Wind farm BoP construction experience
- Direct Eskom interface experience on self-build projects
Substation and OHL experience from any sector counts — the Eskom self-build background is what matters, not the industry label.
Eskom-background candidates will be considered on merit.
What We Offer
- Full ownership of the electrical QA function — not a support role within a larger QA team
- Exposure to wind farm BoP construction including substations and Eskom self-build projects
- Site accommodation provided — single or married basis depending on circumstances
- R&R: fly home once a month or fuel card equivalent. Leave is NOT deducted for R&R time.
- Site based performance bonus optional: This is for strong performers. This is a real, budgeted figure — included in your offer letter.
- Pension/RA: 100% of package pensionable. You select your own contribution percentage.
- Medical aid and disability cover included
- Approximately 18 leave days per year
- PERMANENT Role
Should you not hear back within 14 days, your application was unsuccessful.
